The Air Force officially has redesignated the host unit—the 36th Air Base Wing—at Andersen AFB, Guam, as the 36th Wing. Officials say that the new designation would better reflect the unit’s role overseeing the now-continuous rotation of fighter, bomber, and tanker forces to the Pacific Air Forces region, as well as permanent assignment of a Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle force.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kenneth S. Wilsbach told lawmakers Apr. 30 that the service’s biggest airlifter, the C-5 Galaxy, has a 37 percent mission capable rate—one of several challenges facing the mobility fleet.
