Kadena Largely Untouched:

Although winds mounted at times to 105 mph, Typhoon Man-Yi, the first of the season for the Japanese island of Okinawa, Kadena Air Base sustained relatively little damage. Kadena had put its fighter aircraft in shelters and sent larger aircraft off the island in anticipation of the storm. Maj. Dani Johnson reports that many base residents were without power and water for a time and some buildings had minor damage. Most of the debris came from damaged trees. The eye of the typhoon did not pass directly over the island.
