A California high-tech company said Tuesday that it had fielded its high-fidelity Night Vision Goggle simulation system at Luke AFB, Ariz. Silicon Graphics, Inc. developed the NVG system and integrated it into existing F-16 flight simulators. The technology enables Viper pilots to train as they fly during night missions—improving safety and training effectiveness.
The Air Force is spending heavily on F-22 improvements through the end of the decade, suggesting it may not retire the jet in 2030 as it previously planned. New sensors, fuel tanks, communications, and electronic warfare systems are among the upgrades that comprise the package.
