Using the Internet to help airmen lose weight was the subject of a collaborative study by the Air Force and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. According to USA Today, results of the study were presented during at a conference in Canada. USAF enlisted 452 personnel—ranging in rank and weight, some 30 pounds over their healthy weight—for the six-month test. Some of the personnel deployed overseas during the test, but results showed that those who logged in every day to the program’s interactive Web site lost about 12 pounds. Those in a control group—on their own to follow a standard weight loss plan—gained about a pound.
