Fifteen of the Air Force’s F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighters have returned from South Korea to Holloman AFB, N.M. The fighters and some 300 airmen from the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman were stationed at Kunsan Air Base for the past four months to take part in terrain familiarization exercises as well as tactical proficiency training. The deployment has become an annual rotation for the Holloman force.
Dozens of fighter jets gathered at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida last week to kick off one of the service’s biggest air combat exercises despite the government shutdown. More than 50 aircraft and 500 personnel are participating in Checkered Flag 26-1.
