Army Air Forces 1st Sgt. Lawrence Lambert ejected at more than 300 mph at 6,000 feet altitude over Osborn, Ohio, from a P-61, dubbed “Jack in the Box,” that had taken off from Patterson Field, Ohio, becoming the first person to test the newly developed pilot ejection seat from a high-speed aircraft.
