The 502nd Air Base Wing inaugurated a new 25,000 square foot headquarters last week at Fort Sam Houston, part of JB San Antonio in Texas. The $9.7 million two story headquarters was completed in just over a year and boasts a silver rating under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. “It’s amazing what has happened in the last year since I helped turn that first shovel of earth . … Here in San Antonio, we have come to expect a pace of change that is just outstanding,” said Clarence Maxwell, San Antonio joint program office deputy director. Constructed with 20 percent recycled material, “I hope the 502nd ABW headquarters will become the home of savings for Joint Base San Antonio,” added Maxwell. The 502nd ABW oversees mission support of Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis, all in Texas. (Randolph report by Steve Elliot)
