The 937th Training Group stood up at Joint Base San Antonio with the mission to develop, conduct, and evaluate military medical training. The unit, previously known as the 882nd Training Group, relocated to San Antonio from Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Tex., as a result of a BRAC 2005 decision to consolidate US military medical training. The group assumed its new designation on Oct. 3. The group’s three squadrons will be responsible for USAF officer and enlisted medical training and for instructing Defense Department medics. “This is an exciting moment in time for the group and for the wing,” said Col. Eric Axelbank, commander of the 37th Training Wing, which oversees the group. “We have this opportunity to infuse our vision of the training standard of excellence across a broad array of technical training courses.” (Lackland report by Gerry Proctor)
