Airmen from JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, were among the US military personnel who participated in the 2013 Brunei Darussalam International Defense Exhibition in Jerudong, Brunei Darussalam, according to a Pacific Air Forces release. These members of the 535th Airlift Squadron, 15th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, and PACAF Demonstration Team showcased the C-17’s capabilities in disaster response and other contingency operations through static displays and demo flights during the biennial event, which ran Dec. 1-6. Together with Maj. Gen. Paul McGillicuddy, PACAF’s chief of staff, the Hickam airmen took Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, along with Royal Brunei Air Force Commander Brig. Gen. Haji Wardi bin Haji Abdul Latip, on a tour of a C-17 at Rimba Air Base, states the release. The exhibition, the fourth in the series, was an opportunity for networking and sharing technology with regional partners and allies and for enhancing cooperation with Brunei, said PACAF officials. The Air Force also participated in BRIDEX in 2011. (See also Airpower and Engagement in Southeast Asia.)
