In a reorganization, the Air Force Security Assistance Center has activated the 555th International Group to oversee the Air Force’s $100 billion security assistance budget and foreign military sales to more than 100 countries. AFSAC is part of Air Force Materiel Command, headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
