Malmstrom AFB, Mont., Patrick AFB, Fla., and Peterson AFB, Colo., were the top winners at Air Force Space Command’s Guardian Challenge 2006. Malmstrom’s 341st Space Wing received the Blanchard Trophy for Best Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Space Wing. The 45th SW from Patrick took home the Schriever Trophy for Best Space Launch Wing. The 21st SW at Peterson collected the Aldridge Trophy for Best Space Operations Wing. (Read more here.)
A combined Navy and Air Force program is seeking to build a smaller version of a ubiquitous air-to-air missile that could give advanced aircraft, such as the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, greater magazine depth in a high-end fight.
