A Co-Operative Education Program with Antelope Valley College is underway at Edwards Air Force Base in California, and the 412th Maintenance Squadron’s propulsion flight recently hired its first co-op employee. SrA. Jason Hernandez reports that the employee, aircraft engine mechanic Michael Cermack, came to Edwards through the college’s airframe powerplant program. The co-op initiative requires the students to maintain a 2.5 grade point average while they work 20 hours a week. If they reach a total of 640 hours and have proved “they meet our needs, we can hire them,” says Larry Wolford, with the 412rh Maintenance Squadron propulsion flight.
The Air Force has tapped sites in Oregon to build its first two new Over-the-Horizon Radars, capable of detecting inbound missile threats from up to 4,000 nautical miles away. The service is hoping to start construction by the end of 2028.
