Some 103 senior leaders of Air Force Materiel Command gathered last week in Utah heard their chief lay down the law about the “one.” Gen. Bruce Carlson told them that AFMC does “a lot of great things, … but we’re not there yet as far as being a complete team across the enterprise.” He went on to say, “To get there, our work force needs to understand that we cannot keep operating as separate communities but must instead operate as ‘One Materiel Command.’” Carlson added, “We know it’s possible to be more effective and more efficient than we currently are.”
The Air Force kicked off one of its biggest exercises this week with the latest edition of Bamboo Eagle, featuring combined virtual and live training scenarios focused on test the command-and-control “nervous system” leaders need to operate on a complex joint battlefield spread over vast distances.
