The Air Force Research Lab has signed an agreement with the Energy Department’s Argonne National Lab to share resources, including letting AFRL “leverage some of the top research scientists” in the country and vice versa. An AFRL release states the agreement should produce taxpayer savings and speed introduction of technology.
The Air Force is spending heavily on F-22 improvements through the end of the decade, suggesting it may not retire the jet in 2030 as it previously planned. New sensors, fuel tanks, communications, and electronic warfare systems are among the upgrades that comprise the package.
