In South Carolina near Shaw Air Force Base, local officials want to protect the air base from potential encroachment, so they formed the Shaw Protection Committee, reports Associated Press news service. They do not believe that BRAC 2005 was the last of the base closure rounds.
The United States Air Force is flying less than historic norms and funding for acquisition and readiness is on a path to further hollow out this too small and old force to that is incapable of sustaining an enduring combat air campaign.
