Maj. Gen. Michael Worden, commander of the Air Warfare Center at Nellis AFB, Nev., told the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce that Nellis is under attack from surrounding development, reports KREN. The same is true for Air Force bases in Colorado, according to Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), who put a provision in the 2008 defense policy bill to get DOD to address the issue.
The Air Force wants to pump more than $12 billion over the next five years into its new affordable long-range missiles program and recently asked industry to push the flights of some of those munitions beyond 1,200 miles.
