Holloman AFB, N.M., has the money it needs to make the transition from the F-117 to the new F-22A, per Holloman pilot Maj. John Mihaly, who spoke recently before an area civic group. The Alamogordo Daily News quotes Mihaly: “We have all the funding for all the new facilities. Contracts for this construction will be awarded in the next few months. The actual construction for the beddown will begin in 2008 and run into 2009.”
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
