Guam’s KUAM TV reports that the Air Force has offered three options in an environmental impact statement outlining the service’s plans for Andersen AFB, Guam. Service officials have said they want to place Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles and possibly aerial refuelers on the island, in addition to using it to stage fighter and bomber forces. KUAM says the EIS provides alternatives for various mixes of manned and unmanned aircraft, both permanent and rotational, and the obligatory alternative for no permanent aircraft. The Space Development Agency says it’s on track to issue its next batch of missile warning and tracking satellite contracts this month after those awards were delayed by the Pentagon’s decision to divert funds from the agency to pay troops during this fall’s prolonged government shutdown.
