Utah state lawmaker—Republican Rep. LaVar Christensen—wants to rename Hill AFB, Utah, to include the name of former President Ronald Reagan. He would make it: Reagan Hill Air Force Base. In Christensen’s view, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune, there is “a natural connection” between Reagan and the Utah base. We confess that we have read the legislation and don’t quite see evidence of a direct connection. However, there also is no seemingly direct connection with Maj. Ployer Peter Hill, for whom the base is named.
The Pentagon agency charged with building and operating U.S. spy satellites recently declassified some details about a Cold War-era surveillance program called Jumpseat—a revelation it says sheds light on the importance of satellite imaging technology and how it has advanced in the decades since.
