Thousands of Soldiers Headed to Europe, Iraq

The Army announced on Thursday the deployment of 5,750 troops to Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, which supports NATO allies in response to Russian aggression in the region. The deployment includes about 4,000 soldiers from the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, stationed in Fort Carson, Colo., and about 1,750 soldiers from the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, stationed in Fort Drum, N.Y. US European Command announced in March that the Army would begin rotating US-based armored brigade combat teams to Europe, as part of an increased focus on the European Reassurance Initiative, for which funding was quadrupled in the Fiscal 2017 budget.

The Army also announced the deployment of around 1,700 troops from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., to US? Central Command in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The soldiers will replace the 101st Airborne Division, which is training, advising, and assisting the Iraqi Security Forces, according to the release.
