Air Force Col. David C. Schilling makes the first nonstop transatlantic flight in a jet aircraft, flying a Republic F-84E from Manston, England, to Limestone (later Loring) Air Force Base, Maine, in 10 hours, one minute. The trip requires three in-flight refuelings.
