Iraq launched its only offensive of the Gulf War, attacking the Saudi Arabian city of Khafji, and was promptly clobbered by coalition airpower, to include U.S. Air Force A-10s and AC-130s. By Feb. 1, the city was retaken.
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
