To save victims of drought and civil war in Somalia from starvation, the US launches Operation Provide Relief. By the time it ends on Feb. 28, 1993, 46 USAF transport aircraft airlift more than 23,000 tons of food, water, medical supplies, and other relief cargo to Somalia and to Somali refugees in Kenya.
The Air Force plans to add external weapons pylons on the B-1B bomber, both to increase the number of aircraft that can test hypersonic missiles and expand the Lancer’s loadout as USAF transitions to the B-21 bomber.
