RAF Lakenheath, Britain, home to the 48th Fighter Wing, recently opened the first national testing center in that nation, allowing airmen to continue their education while deployed there. The center, which is administered by the University of Maryland University College, offers a variety of college-level online tests in subjects ranging from English to mathematics to social sciences, foreign languages, business, and science. “It’s really nice to be able to further your education while overseas,” said A1C Thomas Williams, equipment maintenance crewmember with Lakenheath’s 48th Munitions Squadron. The F-47 fighter will be run differently than previous fighter programs and share the same mission systems architecture as the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin told the Senate Armed Services Committee. That means advances in one will fuel advances in the other.
