The Defense Department has announced the academic institutions that are winners of its Fiscal 2010 contract awards for basic, multidisciplinary research. The total value of these 32 funded projects is pegged at $227 million. Ten of these projects will support the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, with topics ranging from energy-dense liquids to social networks. Similarly, 10 fall under the Army Research Office, and 12 are for the Office of Naval Research. Pentagon officials reviewed a total of 152 proposals. (DOD release and projects list)
Airmen and Guardians in the Active and Reserve component, as well as civilian employees, in “mission critical and high-risk populations” are now required to receive influenza vaccinations annually to “preserve force readiness,” according to a recent Department of the Air Force memo.
