The Air Force has awarded a Bronze Star medal to Lt. Col. Terence Mitchell, the chief of medical staff with the 1st Special Operations Medical Group at Hurlburt Field, Fla., for his actions while deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He provided health care to military and civilian personnel and showed “an extraordinary ability to operate in the most uncertain and fluid combat environments,” according to the medal citation. Col. An F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the Texas Air National Guard’s 149th Fighter Wing crashed during a training mission in Michigan on Sept. 17. The fighter's sole pilot ejected and is in stable condition at a local hospital.
