The Air Force has turned over to the March Joint Powers Commission the final deeds, transfering the last of some 4,500 acres at March AFB, Calif. that BRAC 1996 declared surplus, reports Linda Geissinge of the Air Force Real Property Agency. Only the 2,091 acres reserved for Air Force Reserve Command as March Air Reserve Base remain under Air Force control.
The Air Force is spending heavily on F-22 improvements through the end of the decade, suggesting it may not retire the jet in 2030 as it previously planned. New sensors, fuel tanks, communications, and electronic warfare systems are among the upgrades that comprise the package.
