Air Forces Northern reports that it launched 150 fighter sorties, the bulk flown, as usual, by Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Command aircraft, in the month of January. That brings the total number of fighter sorties flown since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, to 35,350. U.S. Northern Command plans to sign an agreement with its European and Pacific counterparts to enhance coordination and close security seams in the Arctic, a strategically vital region that spans all three commands. The agreement comes at an important moment in NORTHCOM's evolution, as its mission grows more complex.
