MSgt. Gary Solomon, a munitions systems specialist from Kadena AB, Japan, has become the first non-marine to receive the Gung-Ho Award at the Marine Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy’s Advanced Course on Okinawa. The marines attending the course present the award to the individual they believe demonstrated the most outstanding motivation and teamwork. Solomon decided to take one of two non-marine quotas for the eight-week course.
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
