At Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, officials say base assets are not in jeopardy from wildfires raging over much of the state. Two fires are burning on the base—from causes unrelated to the state’s wildfires—but the 325th Civil Engineer Squadron contained them, according to a May 15 release. The squadron trains many Forestry Department firefighters on the most current fire suppression and prescribed burning techniques.
The Air Force’s senior enlisted leader told lawmakers that the service is working on 17 new on-base child care facilities to reduce a space shortfall and clear a backlog of Airmen’s children waiting for slots.
