The 355th Wing has now become the 355th Fighter Wing. The change formally took place April 26, according to a base release dated May 18. The wing no longer includes multiple weapon systems in its arsenal, so USAF redesignated it a fighter wing. The unit, which traces its heritage to the 355th Fighter Group and P-47s and P-51s of World War II fame, now —now flies and maintains A-10 close air support aircraft.
