C-17 from the 62nd Airlift Wing at McChord AFB, Wash., had the distinction to fly Air Mobility Command’s millionth sortie for the war on terror. The milestone flight came as a crew from the 62nd AW’s 10th Airlift Squadron flew a mission to Manas AB, Kyrgyzstan, on Nov. 19. According to AMC, about every 90 seconds a USAF mobility aircraft lifts off somewhere around the world.
The Air Force wants to spend more than a half billion dollars through 2031 on a new protection system designed for cargo and refueling aircraft that features onboard sensors and weapons to track and take down enemy missiles and drones.
