Cubic Corp. will be working under a $15.6 million contract to provide its new P5 Combat Training System to restore live instrumented air combat training at the Air National Guard’s Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the center’s live instrumentation capability at the center, which is used by ANG, Air Force Reserve, active Air Force, and Navy aircrews. Air Armament Center at Eglin AFB, Fla., which oversees P5CTS deployment for all the services, has slated delivery and operational capability at Gulfport early next year.
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
