Airmen of the 682nd Air Support Operations Squadron at Shaw AFB, S.C., are nearing the end of testing on the new Gateway vehicle mounted communications system, which enables an Air Support Operations Center and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers to click a button to get vital targeting data to pilots instantly. A test of the system during a recent Central Command Air Forces Atlantic Strike exercise showed a 47 percent reduction in the time needed to exchange data. “Anytime we can process and take out targets faster and more efficiently, it can potentially save the lives of US troops and friendly forces,” said SSgt. The Air Force has finished modifying and testing the new VC-25B Bridge aircraft that will serve as a temporary Air Force One, the service announced May 1. All that’s left now is to finish painting the jet before it starts flying this summer.
