A C-5M Super Galaxy transport, assigned to the 436th Airlift Wing at Dover AFB, Del., opened a new non-stop supply route from the United States to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. The Dover aircrew took the aircraft from the US East Coast across the Atlantic Ocean, over Europe, and into Afghanistan. “This new route provides invaluable options and increased flexibility, so air mobility assets can arrive where they’re needed faster and more efficiently,” said Brig. Gen. Dewey Everhart, commander of the 618th Air and Space Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center) at Scott AFB, Ill. The total flight time was less than 14 hours, which cut time off of traditional routing and eliminated the need for crews to rest overnight in Germany. A KC-135 tanker from RAF Mildenhall, Britain, refueled the C-5 over England during the late September flight. The Air Force achieved its goal of recruiting 32,750 Active-Duty enlisted Airmen for 2026 five months ahead of schedule, military officials said this week—its biggest recruiting year in more than two decades.
