Grand Opening for New Plattsburgh Museum

Local officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to mark the grand opening of the new Air Force Museum at the site of the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, reported WCAX of nearby Burlington, Vt. “Ever since the base closed,” people have wanted to open a museum to tell the former air base’s story, said Frank Baehre of the new museum in the June 9 report. “Now, we’ve been able to pull it off,” he said. The museum opened its doors on June 7. It honors the former base’s 40-year presence in upstate New York. Members of the Battle of Plattsburgh Association donated many of the museum’s display items and raised some $7,000 to open the museum. The new facility replaces an older museum that closed nearly 20 years ago when the air base shut its doors in September 1995.
