Maj. Gen. David Gillett Jr. took command of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker AFB, Okla., during a Jan. 7 ceremony at the base, presided over by new Air Force Materiel Command boss Gen. Donald Hoffman. Gillett replaces Maj. Gen. Loren Reno, who has received Senate confirmation for a third star and will become the top Air Staff logistician. Gillett previously served as the director of logistics at Air Combat Command headquarters, but he is no newcomer to Tinker since he worked there as director of technology and industrial support from June 2000 to April 2001. Hoffman said of Gillett, “Dave, you come to Oklahoma City with the right set of skills” to produce “an even greater world-class organization.” Of Reno, Hoffman said, he had “made a difference” at the depot and should consider his tour there as “definitely part of your legacy” to AFMC and the Air Force. As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
