Put a neurosurgical team in Afghanistan and it will get civilian referrals. Egyptian doctors referred an 8-month-old Afghan girl to the newly deployed neurosurgical team at the Air Force-led Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram AB, Afghanistan. The neurosurgeon, Lt. Col. Randall McCafferty, performed two surgeries to remove a cyst on the child’s brain, correcting a congenital brain abnormality that could have proved fatal. (Report by 1st Lt. Clinton Nawrocki.)
