The 94th Fighter Squadron at Langley AFB, Va., has gotten its final new F-22A stealth fighter, taking receipt of Raptor No. 094 on June 5, reports A1C Chase DeMayo. Squadron commander Lt. Col. Kevin Fesler flew 094 to its home at Langley, where it will serve as the 94th’s flagship aircraft. To get No. 094, the Langley unit had to trade fighters with the 90th FS at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The Alaska unit took No. 086. Joining the 94th FS in this rare situation are the unit’s mechanics, who comprise the 94th Aircraft Maintenance Unit.
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
