Elsewhere in the heavy bomber world, the Air Force plans to shift temporarily 20 B-1B bombers and some 550 airmen assigned to Dyess AFB, Tex., to Ellsworth AFB, S.D., while the runway at Dyess undergoes repair. Other Dyess bombers are deployed to Southwest Asia, reports SrA. Carolyn Viss, making this an opportune time for the runway work.
Dozens of fighter jets gathered at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida last week to kick off one of the service’s biggest air combat exercises despite the government shutdown. More than 50 aircraft and 500 personnel are participating in Checkered Flag 26-1.
