Scientists and engineers from the Air Force Research Laboratory, as well as Defense Department medical organizations will exhibit more than 100 innovations ranging from advanced weapons to disaster relief support during the Defense Lab Day at the Pentagon on May 14. Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology, and logistics is hosting the event. Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work will speak at the opening ceremony. “We’re really excited about this event,” said Maj. Gen. Tom Masiello, AFRL commander. “The DOD labs are vital to the force of the future. Our scientists and engineers are engaged in some of the most exciting work in the nation. While none of the major aircraft contractors were selected to develop the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, all three say they are seeking further autonomous aircraft work for the Navy, foreign partners, or in the classified arena, and maybe future versions of the CCA itself.
