Titanium Industry Digging In: The US titanium industry is facing off against defense contractors over a proposed change to a metals law called the Berry Amendment that requires an American-made sticker for certain metals used in military weapons. According to the Congressional newspaper The Hill, reports that defense contractors are pushing for a more lax interpretation because they claim global sourcing has obscured the origins of some materials.
The Pentagon is significantly bolstering airpower near Venezuela, dispatching the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to Latin America, it said in an Oct. 24 statement. The announcement came just hours after U.S. Air Force B-1 bombers and other U.S. assets flew near the Venezuelan coast on Oct. 23.
