A Nov. 15 Air Force Reserve Command news release identified the first airmen to complete the new C-5 Formal Training Unit program at Kelly Field, Lackland AFB, Tex.—flight engineer SrA. Raymond Montanino and pilots 1st Lt. Paul Sloan and 2nd Lt. Blair Preston. AFRC instructors at Kelly provided the practical flight training side of C-5 indoctrination for active duty Montanino and Air National Guardsmen Sloan and Preston. The Air Force is slowly transferring C-5 ground and air training from Altus AFB, Okla., to Kelly and expects to have all training conducted by AFRC’s 433rd Airlift Wing at Kelly by the end of Fiscal 2007.
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
