Seventy-two percent of the American public trusts military officers to tell the truth, the latest Harris Poll found, an increase of eight points from a survey conducted in 2002. Americans also highly trust doctors and teachers, who ranked numbers 1 and 2, respectively, with 85 percent and 83 percent saying they could be trusted. Only 48 percent of Americans believe the President can generally be trusted, a significant drop of 17 percentage points from the 2002 Harris Poll.
