Iran claims to have built a 2,000-pound guided bomb “within the framework of enhancing our defense capabilities and in accordance with our deterrent principles,” according to Agence France-Presse news service. AFP picked up the quote by Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Majjar from the Iranian news service. And, according to the Associated Press, Iranian-TV claims that Iran has produced its first domestic-built fighter aircraft. Called “Saegheh,” the aircraft reportedly is similar to the US F-18 fighter, but “more powerful,” reports AP. The unveiling came during Iran’s recent war game maneuvers.
An important U.S. Air Force E-3 Sentry AWACS command and control plane was among the aircraft damaged in a March 27 Iranian missile and drone attack on Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, people familiar with the matter told Air & Space Forces Magazine.
