House Armed Services Committee leader Duncan Hunter will not be trying to create a recreation facility for military personnel and veterans on California’s Santa Rosa Island, located in the Channel Islands National Park. The Los Angeles Times reports that Hunter withdrew his legislation when it ran into resistance from California’s Senate delegation, environmentalists, and the National Park Service. That’s a no-win situation by any measure.
A new report from the Government Accountability Office calls for the Pentagon’s Chief Technology Officer to have budget certification authority over the military services’ research and development accounts—a move the services say would add a burdensome and unnecessary layer of bureaucracy.
