Africa Crash Claims Two Airmen: Pentagon officials said that two airmen were among the 10 US service members killed when two Marine Corps CH-53 helicopters crashed on Feb. 17 into the Gulf of Aden near northern Djibouti. The airmen were: SrA. Alecia S. Good, 23, of Broadview Heights, Ohio; and SSgt. Luis M. Melendez Sanchez, 33, of Bayamon, P.R. Good was assigned to the 92nd Communications Squadron, Fairchild AFB, Wash., and Sanchez to the 1st CS, Langley AFB, Va. Both airmen and the eight marines killed were deployed as part of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
The Department of the Air Force will be taking over the Pentagon’s prototype Joint Fires Network, or JFN, as it transitions to a fully fledged program of record, program executive officer for command, control, communications, and battle management Maj. Gen. Luke C.G. Cropsey told reporters Sept. 18.
