A B-52 bomber from the 668th Bombardment Squadron loses two of its eight engines when one explodes and damages its neighbor. At about the same time, two more engines on the same side of the aircraft flame out. The crew is able to restart the two flamed-out engines and land safely. They receive the 1993 Mackay Trophy.
The Air Force is spending heavily on F-22 improvements through the end of the decade, suggesting it may not retire the jet in 2030 as it previously planned. New sensors, fuel tanks, communications, and electronic warfare systems are among the upgrades that comprise the package.
