Scientists and engineers from the Air Force Research Laboratory, as well as Defense Department medical organizations will exhibit more than 100 innovations ranging from advanced weapons to disaster relief support during the Defense Lab Day at the Pentagon on May 14. Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology, and logistics is hosting the event. Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work will speak at the opening ceremony. “We’re really excited about this event,” said Maj. Gen. Tom Masiello, AFRL commander. “The DOD labs are vital to the force of the future. Our scientists and engineers are engaged in some of the most exciting work in the nation. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. has flown a second YFQ-42A Collaborative Combat Aircraft, stepping up the pace of testing for the new uncrewed fighter escort. The company also announced “Gambit 6,” a fresh variant in its CCA family meant for air-to-ground missions.
