Bioenvironemental engineers from the 94th Mission Support Group at Dobbins ARB, Ga., have teamed up with scientists from the Georgia Department of Health (GDH) to combat mosquitoes that could be carrying the Zika virus, according to a release. The team found the Zika-carrying species Aedes albopictus in high numbers on the Dobbins firing range. “The findings surprised us because we weren’t expecting to find this type and number of mosquitos,” e?ngineer Christine Englemann said. Now that potential Zika carriers have been identified in the area, Dobbins and GDH are also laying out recommendations for mitigation. They suggest actively draining sources of standing water and using barrier spray and larvicides to reduce the population.
